2024 Legacy Award Recipients
The Legacy Award was established in 2013 to honor alumnae who have made a significant contribution to the sorority and whose service has left a lasting legacy. After an eleven year hiatus, the National Board of Regents revived the Legacy Award with the inaugural Alumnae Dinner at the 2024 National Convention.
This year, the Legacy Award has been posthumously awarded to Louise and Frances Quattlebaum of the Alpha Chapter. As alumnae, Louise and Frances Quattlebaum organized the Gamma Chapter in Pine Bluff, Arkansas, in 1922 after the sorority had effectively dissolved due to the first World War. The Quattlebaum sisters saved Delta Beta Sigma, reviving its spirit so that it’s alive and well today.
The sisters also wrote our Ritual, Constitution, and By-Laws, established the National Board of Regents, and published the first edition of the Gamma Tattler, a precursor to the The Beta. In many ways, the Quattlebaum sisters molded Delta Beta Sigma into the organization that it is today, making them the model recipient of the Legacy Award. Outside of our founders, few individuals can say they had more of an impact on DBS than Louise and Frances.
Regretfully, we do not have pictures of Louise and Frances, and few details remain about who they were outside of Delta Beta Sigma. However, there are hints of their personality throughout our historical documents, including the following poems on the page titled “Don’t You Think So?” from the Gamma Tattler. What we do know about these sisters, though, is their deep love for DBS and commitment to its flourishing.
“A lazy smile
Most captivating
Personality
Most fascinating
That's Louise Quattlebaum.”
“A little loud
Awfully pretty
Darn good company
A good sport and witty
That's Frances Quattlebaum.”
