DBS Takes Sisterhood Online!
In accordance with CDC and local officials’ recommendations, National Delta Beta Sigma has asked our members to stop all in-person DBS activities. However, that doesn’t stop our sisterhood! Here are some exciting virtual ideas for sisterhood, alumnae, philanthropy, and academics!
Sisterhood Events
Virtual Book Club
Pen pals- Pair members and rotate over the coming weeks. They can send handwritten notes or care packages to each other.
TV and movie watch parties- this can be coordinated using the Netflix Party chrome extension
Art competition- choose a theme, have members submit photos of their creations and then hold a vote to choose winners of the competition
If you do a DBS theme, contact Lauren Smith (Laurenkernsmithdbs@gmail.com) for possibilities of including the art in The Beta
Coordinate other virtual experiences- consider making a small donation from the chapter to support the host organization
Attend virtual church together- choose a local church that is broadcasting a service, watch together and then discuss in a group chat
Remote classes- members or mothers lead dance, cheer, craft, whatever class for each other or find community members interested in doing this!
Cooking Club- members share recipes or videos of them cooking
DIY/Pinterest Projects- create a group chat to share crafting failures and successes
Group to share home/room reorganizing tips
MTV Cribs Events- Members video tour of their home, introducing everyone to their pets, family, showing off their room.
Alumnae Events
With many colleges and universities closed and encouraging students to move home, there are many recent alumnae that may be in your area with extra time. You might choose to extend some of the above sisterhood events to these alumnae or to coordinate some alumnae specific events:
Match members and alumnae by specific interests/major for career/major mentoring
Ask alumnae to host an information session on National Panhellenic Council sororities/recruitment
Philanthropy Events
If your chapter held a Princess Party, reach out to parents whose children attended that party to see if you can set up a video call with your princesses to read a children’s book to them or otherwise chat with them.
Pick-up groceries for at-risk and older neighbors
Support local medical and emergency professionals by putting together care packages, picking up groceries for them, or offering to care for their pets
Organize donations to the area food bank
Make cards for nursing home residents
Contact Ronald McDonald House/Room in your area to see how you can remotely support them- perhaps you can make cards for kids and families staying there?
Academic Events
Put members in groups by grade and school, have them check in with goals for the day by 9am, check out with questions, successes by 3pm. This gives everyone some outside accountability and just opens the conversation so people have a place to ask questions and a resource to identify people working on the same academic content.
Have each member make a general schedule for their time and share- how much time are they spending on school stuff, do they have a workout routine, do they have dedicated time for hobbies?
