DBS Wears Pink for the 1 in 8

Every year at Delta Beta Sigma’s convention, a new philanthropy is chosen for the upcoming academic year. This year, we are ecstatic to announce that we will be supporting the Breast Cancer Research Foundation (BCRF)! This organization works to prevent and cure breast cancer by improving research in diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of breast cancer. Their goal is to increase the amount of breast cancer survivors each year through advancing their knowledge in science.

The current seven chapters of Delta Beta Sigma are prepared to support this philanthropy by selling pink lemonade, pink shirts, or volunteering at Breast Cancer Awareness 5K’s.  The accumulated monetary value will fund researchers and crucial hours in the lab. BCRF funds 255 experienced researchers across fourteen countries and five continents. Get to know them here. Research matters, and investing in this research will bring change and transform countless family’s lives.

Additionally, our National Vice President Philanthropy, Fiona Franks, is excited about this upcoming year. Read what she has to say about this year’s philanthropy below.

“Hello! I am Fiona Franks and I am the 2023-2024 National Vice-President of Philanthropy! Let me start by saying how much of a blessing this position is for me. Words cannot express how much I love doing the work, meeting the people, working with various organizations, and everything in between that comes with this position. At our annual convention this year, each chapter votes on an organization to support for the upcoming year. When I announced that the organization that had the most votes and won was “Breast Cancer Research Foundation”,  the room erupted in hugs, claps, and cheers. It was breathtaking to see how excited the young women were to support this upcoming philanthropy. Not only did it have a wonderful impact on the girls, but the board members as well. For me personally and almost everyone, we know someone who has had breast cancer. I remember when I was younger, my aunt got diagnosed with breast cancer and to watch her go through that and how amazing the care and staff were was truly eye-opening. When I got into college, I joined a sorority known as Zeta Tau Alpha and their philanthropy is “Breast Cancer Education and Awareness.” Through my life experiences, I have learned so much and am so excited to be in this position to help all of these young women in the chapters work to raise awareness and money for the Breast Cancer Research Foundation. I am so excited for an amazing year and what these phenomenal young women will accomplish! If you would like to know more and how you can help, please feel free to reach out to me via email”

We are so thankful for Fiona and her hard work and dedication! Delta Beta Sigma wears pink for the 1 in 8 US women that are diagnosed with breast cancer. Join us in ending breast cancer. Join us to support research. Let us unite and transform lives.
